A Clustering-Based Approach to Detecting Critical Traffic Road Segments in Urban Areas

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper introduces a parameter-free clustering-based approach to detecting critical traffic road segments in urban areas, i.e., of spatially prolonged and high accident risk. In addition, it proposes novel domain-specific criterion for evaluating the clustering results, which promotes stability results through time inter-period spatial collocation, penalizes size selected clusters. To illustrate proposed approach, is applied data on accidents with injuries or death that occurred three largest cities Serbia over three-year period.

statistical road classification applied to stratified spatial sampling of road traffic noise in urban areas

monitoring of road traffic noise is becoming an important issue in modern cities due to the spreading of noise pollution and the extension of monitored areas. thus, the stratified spatial sampling is frequently applied to reduce the costs and provide adequate accuracy in order to obtain reliable noise maps. the definition of the strata in the sampling may refer to the legislative classification...

Predictability of Road Traffic and Congestion in Urban Areas

Mitigating traffic congestion on urban roads, with paramount importance in urban development and reduction of energy consumption and air pollution, depends on our ability to foresee road usage and traffic conditions pertaining to the collective behavior of drivers, raising a significant question: to what degree is road traffic predictable in urban areas? Here we rely on the precise records of d...

Road pricing in urban areas

Road pricing has been promoted by transport economists for decades as a means of solving congestion problems in big cities. Congestion causes enormous costs to society in a number of ways; for example, overall transport costs rise, polluting emissions increase, the demand for infrastructure is artificially driven up. The social benefits of solving the congestion problem would therefore be enorm...

A market-inspired approach to reservation-based urban road traffic management

Urban road traffic management is an example of a socially relevant problem that can be modelled as a large-scale, open, distributed system, composed of many autonomous interacting agents, which need to be controlled in a decentralized manner. Most models for urban road traffic management rely on control elements that act on traffic flows. Dresner and Stone have put forward the idea of an advanc...

Knowledge based approach to urban traffic control

We present the general design of a system to control urban street traffic signals. It is based on cooperating, learning, realtime, distributed expert systems. We also describe the operation of a running prototype program which, while using several simplifying assumptions, has proven the technical feasibility of the approach. It has also attained a 36% improvement in the traffic flow under non-s...
